| May 27, 2005 13 years ago I was a newlywed who had just moved to Southern Illinois with my new husband to return to college. While I was there, I worked at a pet store. Before going to Carbondale, I had also worked at the Humane Society in St. Louis...from these jobs I found the pets that would walk with me through the coming stages of my life. 2000 my Dear dog "Bear"...a 11 year old Doberman/Rottweiler mix that I had brought home the day he was born. Bottle fed him, took him to work with me every day....passed on. He was a good dog, extremely protective of his "pack". He would sleep under Kyle's bed when he was a baby and was the perfect pillow when watching TV. I miss my big brown dog. 2003 my first kitty Babs also passed on. I found her in January 1990 in a cardboard box on the bus-stop bench in front of the Humane Society. I had to dust off the snow to open the box and when I opened it...there was this little frightened kitten...barely moving...eyes hardly open. This was my "Babs".. The Queen of the Family. For what it's worth...she hated Bear from the DAY I brought him home and didn't give that up the entire 11 years they spent together!! And this morning....my baby kitty "Ripley" passed on as well. She hasn't been well for a month or so and the day before yesterday she we obviously having more and more difficulty. They say that animals know when they are going to die, but until this morning, I didn't really believe it. I've slept on the couch for the last 2 nights just so I could have Ripley close and I could hear if she needed anything, but every morning, I'd wake up and she was still fighting. Yesterday afternoon however, it was painfully obvious she wasn't going to be with us much longer...so I took her out on the deck, sat with her on my lap for an hour or so then put her in her favorite spot under a bush in the yard. She was always the adventurous one and the last thing she would ever want was to be cooped up inside or snuggled. Well, she found a nice quiet spot under the deck steps and through out the night I checked on her...she was still hanging tough. Around 4am this morning, I finally fell asleep for a few hours...woke up at 7:30 to take Kyle to school and went to check on Ripley. She wasn't under the stairs!! So I run inside to get my shoes to find her and there she is...laying against a tree in the yard...sun shining on her little face..still breathing!! She died as soon as I found her. I have to believe that she crawled out from her spot and waited for me this morning...but she went with dignity and peace in her favorite place in the world. May 23, 2005 A little later..... Forgot to mention....I'm the featured interview in a new online-magazine or sorts called The Open Hearth...check out my tantilizing interview here (hahaha I crack myself UP!) Happy Monday everyone! We had a great Friday and Saturday here in suburban Detroit. Weather was fabulous..and with that...got alot done in the garden. Be sure to check out the progress here! I'm going to try a new slide-show feature for the garden pics I found online...we'll see how it works (once I figure it out)! Also went to see Star Wars on Saturday night. It was fabulous! As someone that saw the original in the theatre in 1977, It's amazing to see how the movie technology has progressed. I was trying to explain to John's brother Joe..who is 22..why Star Wars was such a big deal when I was a kid. The only movie I can compare it to as far as new technology was the original "Terminator"...he still didn't get it. Isn't it amazing how jaded we become with technology?? Anyway, I loved it...I'm such a dork! haha! There was also an air show in town this weekend and I've joked before that the airplanes coming into the airbase use our roof to line up with the runway...and boy was that true this weekend. Jets flying over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Click here to see some pics of the Navy Blue Angels flying over our neighborhood. I grew up on airbases...but these jets flying over still give me chill bumps and make me squeal like a little girl! I've also been fighting a major case of the cooties. Was a little icky on Saturday..but attributed it to being in the sun all day. Sunday it hit me like a Mack truck and today isn't much better. I tried making some beads for a special order. ohhhh. bad idea. If you have a special order in with me...ya'll don't want these beads. You don't want to know what happens to a scroll when you sneeze. I'll just have to work double time to make up for the lost time yesterday and today. Have a great week everyone! May 19, 2005 It's Friiiiiddaaaaaayyyyy! It is a beautiful day here in Detroit and I plan on finally getting out in the garden to plant the 4 flats of perennials I bought at Eastern Market on Sunday. It has been cold and dreary since last weekend, but I was told that the cool weather is better for the plants when they aren't planted yet. So far, the plants all look good and happy. The front of the house is shaping up. I was pulling weeds (with a jacket on...doesn't seem right) on Tuesday and finally said I'd had it....I hopped in the car and bought 15 bags of mulch. Looks much nicer now. Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been preparing for my upcoming show every spare m inute I can. I'm almost in panic mode at this point *screams and babbles non-sensibly* HOW do ya'll do more than one show a year?? haha! Actually, I'm contemplating signing up for a bead-only show in Kalamazoo in October. Friday Glassworks are cooling in the kiln as we speak. I should have them up sometime in the early afternoon. Have a great day! May 14, 2005 Hope everyone is having a great weekend! We are heading to eastern market in Detroit tomorrow for the plants for our veggie garden, so I've been hanging out in the garden this morning....then running inside like a mad-woman when it starts to rain. Fun stuff. Anyhoo, as promised...a day late (better late than never right!?) Friday Glassworks is up! Hope you like purple!! Have a fabulous weekend and I'll be checking in again next week! May 13, 2005 Happy Friday everyone! Well, it's Friday the 13th and even if I didn't have a calendar, I'd know it because of the flooded basement I have. *sigh*- Seems the way this sub was built, there is a bit of backup in the pipes when it rains and the drains don't always drain as fast as they should. Well, long story short, I did laundry this morning, now a downpour. Came home from lunch with the girls and yep, you guessed it, water in the basement. Just wanted to pop in to let you know Friday Glassworks may turn into Saturday glassworks because of my little Friday the 13th adventure! Everyone have a great weekend and I'll keep ya updated on my little indoor lake. May 10, 2005 Spring has finally sprung here in Michigan! *insert incredibly goofy dance here* I've been gardening gardening gardening!! This house has an incredibly landscaped lot that, well, went to crapola last year. Partly because the previous owners didn't do anything to it last spring and partly because we moved in to the house in July and decided to "let everything be" so we could see what came up in the spring. Wanna see what came up? My Garden I've decided I'm going to keep an archive of the progress we make in the yard this year. I already know we've worked our tails off, but I think it will be pretty coolio to be able to see the garden as it grows and comes along! Have a gorgeous garden or a disaster story? I'd love to put it up...share my pain and glory with me! haha! This Satuday is "Flower Day" at Eastern Market in Detroit. This is one hella fun day where you go with a cart and comfy shoes and haggle for a flat of impatients and tomatoes! I love it! And as you can see...I have ALOT of area to fill. I'm picking up ferns, hostas, a hydrangea (very excited) and whatever else I want to out of my boyfriend's mother's yard. Her yard is what mine wants to be when it grows up. I'll try to post pics of her phenomenal garden later this week. I'm really loving torching in the evenings now. It's warm and still light until 8"30-9:00 pm..so those of you with special orders...I'm working on them! (Thanks!! ) Everyone have a fabulous evening and rest of the week! Be sure to check out my website only set I've added to the KeyWest Series! Website only means just that...you won't be seeing this set on eBay! May 6, 2005 It's Friday again! Sorry about the lack of webbie updates this week..I've been doing alot of experimenting at the torch and getting ready for my show in June. My youngest kitty is also not well. She's 13 and is a cranky old woman...some days she doesn't move much and she had a couple of those days this week. She's always been a very "assertive" cat..I call her my "girl kitty" because she is everything a stereotypical woman is. Moody, demanding, unpredictable (she's bitten everybody I know except me) and at times...unreasonable (ie: sits outside the bedroom door and SCREAMS if she wants a treat...she will follow you all over the house UNTIL you get her the treat. And if its not the one she wants...she won't eat it...and continue to whiiinnnneeeee). She loves to sit under one of the 27 (yes 27...anyone want a frikken tree?) trees in our backyard. I decided when she does pass...I'll have her cremated and put her out there by the tree. She'd like that. My older kitty Giggles is too stupid to ever die. She'll outlive me probably. She's 15 and still plays and shows no signs of slowing down. I'm still stuck on pinks and greens and purples and STILL working on getting a purple that "pops"...no luck so far. The glass I need is on back order..so hopefully I'll be able to come up with a transparent purple bead as vibrant as the pinks. Some bright fun beads are on the menu for Friday Glassworks today! Everyone have a great weekend. We are having friends over for pasta tonight and tomorrow is the monthly poker game. We aren't hosting this month. Cross your fingers! A win means more glass! LOL! |
